The Lost Lake Story
Originally all the land in the Eastbrook area was part of the surrounding Karri Forest. In the early 1920s the government handed out land in the area to soldiers returned from the war as part of the Group Settlement Scheme. Land in the Eastbrook valley was given to two brothers named Littlefair, they cleared the land for farming using nothing more than an axe and a two handed saw.
They established a camp near a natural, shallow lake; close to where the entrance to Lost Lake now stands. Over time, as land use changed and dams were built, the natural lake drained away and became 'lost'. In the winter time the area becomes wet and boggy and the ghost of the Littlefair's lake can still be seen.
The Ammonite
The symbol of Lost Lake represents the primordial nature of the area. The land, the forest and the ocean are bound together by their ancient roots and the ammonite is a symbol of this.
